All the newspapers of this morning are cloloured with the stories of this historical win. Big mouthed critics and indifferent personalities are left with no other way than praising the moment. Above all celebrations at Dharavi is remarkable and worth joining. At least our beauty is admired outside.
Slumdog Millionaire becomes the second overseas film, after Gandhi to perform excellently at the Academy Awards function. To be correct Gandhi was an Indo-Overseas production. Even that film shared victory with Bhany Athaiya, an Indian costume designer of the film. Moreover, even Gandhi won Golden Globe and BAFTA, the same year before winning eight Academy awards.
Indian themes have the potential of being admired and appreciated. Unfortunately non of the Indian creators of cinema in India, other than Mahboob Khan (Mother India), Satyajit Ray (Satranj ke Khiladi), Mira Nair (Salaam Bombay) and Asutosh Gowariker (Lagaan) made their presence felt at the Academy Awards function.
(All the films mentioned above were nominated for Oscar

'Slumdog' is not something I am proud of. Moreever, it is not an Indian film in first place, made by a British production house, Brit director and Brit actor who potrays slum kid, to my suprise speaks with a british accent. I think it is a lil stuck up in that "white man's burden" thing
Rahman and Pookutty's achievement are truly commendable.. Though, I still believe taht Rahman has made much much better music in his lifetime
Hi Mayuri,
Even I am not impressed with the idea of Slumdog winning Oscar, but of course I think that the technicians who are awarded deserved this, not only this time but also earlier and for several of their creations.
I was going through film history and found that even Shyam Benegal got Filmfare only once (1980) and second time he was nominated, whereas I see that his filmography is far more impressive than any other Karan Johar, Sanjay Bhansali or anybody else for that matter.
Last but not the least, in the time of recession a super hero in the form of Jamal was found in an Indian Diplomat's book "Slumdog Millionaire". I contemplated that if we have enough subjects around us and they are being observed and translated into good works, then why don't we feel them. Even Gandhi was a British Film and that succeeded at all the three award functions then in the similar manner. Now the point is Gandhi was a subject like Slumdog. It did not deal with any Shit plunging scene. On top everything the nation had turned 33 years old by then and we counted Gandhi as the Father of our nation but we failed to tell his story on celluloid. If at all we remembered this character that was through an atrocious creation as Hey Ram, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Munna Bhai MBBS, Maine Gandhi ko Nahin Mara and Gandhi My Father, and many more.
This piece of writing is straightly pointed towards the Indian cinema stalwarts who could not think at least as good as a white man. See, even our historiography has been formed and patronized by them (ASI for example). And I am sure that this could not reach so many people. Besides, it was an emotional moment for in fact that I did it instantly after seeing Indian Express, Times of India and Hindustan Times that day.
Well felt good.
